Open house planned at YVEA offices in Steamboat Wednesday

Yampa Valley Electric Association will host a ribbon cutting and open house at its newly renovated Steamboat Springs Service Center and corporate offices at 2211 Elk River Road from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 21. Free mulch available to Steamboat Springs residents

Mulch generated through the city of Steamboat Springs' Christmas tree recycling program is now available to the public. The mulch is located to the right of the entrance to the Howelsen Ice Complex, 285 Howelsen Parkway. Participants will have to load their own vehicles, and the mulch will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The city asks that only residents and homeowners participate.

Master plan public workshop held at Olympian Hall today

The next opportunity for public input for the Comprehensive Parks, Recreation, Open Space, Trails and River master plan will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 21 at Olympian Hall.

The workshop will include a review of summary of community input to date, vision and goals for the system and various funding alternatives. Participants will be asked to provide input on alternatives and proposed recommendations for improving and enhancing the parks and recreation system.

The workshop is open to the public.

Mother-Daughter Day will be March 31 at Steamboat Grand

The annual Mother-Daughter Day is scheduled for 8 to 11:30 a.m. March 31 at The Steamboat Grand. New Frontiers for Women and Girls hosts the free event for fifth-grade girls and their mothers or female friends to strengthen their relationships before transitioning to middle school.

Breakfast will be served with presentations on self-esteem and changing bodies, peer pressure, parenting and healthy bodies and lifestyles.

As part of the peer pressure presentation, a panel of middle school girls will answer anonymous questions from attending girls about what to expect. During the parenting discussion, a panel of local women will answer questions from attending mothers about what to expect as their daughters head to middle school and beyond.

Free breast exams available for qualified Colorado residents

Women age 40 to 64 who have limited or no health insurance may qualify for free breast exams and cervical cancer screenings. In addition to meeting age and income requirements, women must live in Colorado, be legal residents (or legally present) in the U.S. and have not had a mammogram or Pap test in the past 12 months. Online local food market has expanded

The Community Agriculture Alliance has expanded hours for its online local food market at caamarket.org. The site, which is managed by CAA, allows local producers the opportunity to list their products, and customers can shop online.

The site is open for weekly ordering from noon Monday through midnight Wednesday. Orders are picked up at CAA offices, at 141 Ninth St. in downtown Steamboat, from 9 am. to 5:30 p.m. Friday.

The market is also offering new same day pick up with a limited number of local products available for ordering and pick up the same day. Current same day pick up products include farm fresh eggs, micro greens, local pork, lamb and beef, honey, locally roasted coffee, tea, wheat berries and more.
