Nominations for Philanthropist of the Year deadline Friday, April 13

The Philanthropist of the Year Award was established in 1998 by the Yampa Valley Community Foundation to heighten the visibility of philanthropy and giving in the Yampa Valley.
Each year, this award honors the individual, business and youth who have exhibited significant charitable giving, insightful leadership and volunteerism and who have encouraged others to contribute by example.
Nominations are now being accepted for 2018 recipients of this honor. Visit yvcf.org/about-us/philanthropist/for the form and instructions on how to submit your nomination. Area choral group presents 'The Journey Home' during weekend
The Yampa Valley Singers will present two performances of "The Journey Home" at 7 p.m. Friday, April 13 and 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14 at Heart of Steamboat United Methodist Church at Eighth and Oak streets. Music will include "Nine Hundred Miles", "Homeward Bound", "Lonesome Traveler," "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" and more. A reception will follow in Fellowship Hall. Tickets are $10 and available from singers and at All That.
Russian drama film to screen at Chief Theater
Bud Werner Memorial Library's free foreign film series continues with Russian director Andrei Konchalovsky's film, "Paradise," screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the Chief Theater.
Olga is a beautiful Russian countess and member of the French Resistance; Jules is a French-Nazi collaborator who is assigned to investigate her case; and Helmut is a handsome, high-ranking, yet naïve German SS officer who once fell madly in love with Olga and meets her again when she is shipped to a concentration camp.

While they recount their stories, the film drifts between the bloody end of World War II and the gilded, halcyon days when their destinies first crossed.
Shot in stunning black and white, the film depicts the morally complex choices that one must make during dark times in search of paradise — a look at the past and its lessons for the present. The film screens in Russian with English subtitles. Visit steamboatlibrary.org/events for more information.
Public workshop on river held Wednesday
The city of Steamboat Springs will host its second community workshop on the Yampa River Health Assessment and Streamflow Management Plan at 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18 at the Steamboat Springs Community Center, 1605 Lincoln Ave.
The April community workshop will utilize an open format with a short presentation, followed by participant input and discussion. The city and its partners are leading the development of this plan to improve the health and resiliency of the Yampa River through town in the face of shifting climatic conditions and water use demands.

Museum presents Ute Indian dance pow wow
The Tread of Pioneers Museum in Steamboat Springs is hosting the Youth Leadership Coalition of the Ute Indian Tribe in Fort Duchesne, Utah, who will share Ute Indian customs, pow wow dances, music and regalia in a special performance and historical presentation May 3.
The educational event will take place at 5 and 6 p.m. at the Steamboat Springs High School Auditorium at 45 Maple St. The all ages event is free, but donations will be accepted for a Ute Indian native language preservation project.
