Development projects focus of Friday’s Coffee with Council

Coffee with Council is scheduled for 7:30 to 9 a.m. Friday, April 13 in the Crawford Room of Centennial Hall, 124 10th St. The session will focus on what is in the development pipeline for the city of Steamboat Springs, and members of the planning and community development staff will provide an overview of the status of development-approved projects expected to begin this spring and summer. No RSVP is necessary, and community members are welcome to drop by to discuss any issues of interest to them. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
Evening of free gardening advice at library at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 10
Bud Werner Memorial Library and the Routt County CSU Master Gardeners present "An Evening with the Master Gardeners" from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 in Library Hall. With the onset of gardening season in the Yampa Valley, this is a night of expert gardening advice to help gardeners plan and maximize their summer gardens.
During this open house gardening event, the community is invited to talk one-on-one with local gardening experts. Demonstrations will include an introduction to gardening in Routt County, common pests and weeds, seed selection, transplanting, season extension, water-wise gardening and more. New, more advanced topics the Master Gardeners will address this year also include beekeeping, greenhouse gardening, trees and shrubs, vermiculture and tower gardening. Routt County CSU Extension's soil sample kits will be available for purchase on site as well. This is a free event and no registration required. Community blood drive set to be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday
A Steamboat Springs community blood drive, sponsored by Bonfils Blood Center, will be held from 12:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 12 in the UCHealth Yampa Valley Medical Center conference rooms. To schedule an appointment, visit bonfils.org and use site code 0234 or call Bonfils at 303-363-2300. Those planning to give blood are asked to bring their ID, eat substantial meals and be well hydrated.
Students invited to audition for Steamboat opera performance
Auditions for the Opera Steamboat's English sung production of "The Cunning Little Vixen" by Janácek will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. April 18 and from 9:30 to 11 a.m. April 21 in the Opera Steamboat office, 320 Lincoln Ave., Suite H.
There are four roles for students age 7 to 15, who will perform as fox cubs in the opera with members of Opera Steamboat's Opera Artist Institute, directors and orchestra. Students should be prepared to sing 16 bars of music with piano or acapella. Those singing with piano should bring sheet music for the pianist. Students with stage and music experience are preferred.

Students wishing to audition must reserve a 10-minute time slot by today.
Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must be in town for the full three-week schedule of July 24 to Aug. 11, and if selected, be able to attend all rehearsals and performances required for their role.
