Forensics team members place in top six at tourney
December 5, 2006
Steamboat Springs — The Steamboat Springs High School forensics team took 10 competitors to the eight-team Fruita-Monument High School Invitational on Saturday.
Steamboat’s Original Oratory squad had the team’s top showing, placing three members in the top six at the tournament. Josie Pacana finished second, Paula Ninger was fourth and Stephen Bell was sixth.
Pacana’s speech was about maintaining childhood innocence, Ninger’s speech was about standing up and fighting for what matters to each of us and Bell delivered a speech about lack of personal connections in our technological world.
Ashley Lopez placed fourth in the International Extemporaneous Speaking event, which involves answering questions about U.S. foreign policy and the social, economic and political issues of other countries.
Hanna Kurowski, competing in her first tournament, paired with Jeff Lambart to finish with a 1-2 record in Public Forum Debate.
The Steamboat team travels to Niwot High School on Saturday for the toughest competition thus far, coach Marty Lamansky said.
