Body of missing skier found after backcountry slide near Keystone Resort

At 11:30 a.m. Tuesday Feb. 11, the body of a missing skier was located approximately 24 hours after an avalanche in the backcountry area south of Keystone Ski Resort.
The Summit County Coroner's Office has been notified, and will issue more information once its investigation is complete. The identity of the Front Range man will not be released until his family memebrs have been notified.
The male skier, in his 40s, was reported missing in an avalanche that took place around noon Monday, Feb. 10. The man was with another skier who was also caught in the slide but able to self-extract, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Office. This skier then reported the avalanche, saying he was unable to locate his companion. The name of the survivor is not being released at this time because the incident is still under investigation, said Tracy LeClair, Summit County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
