Bob Enever: City should not appeal judge’s ruling
September 5, 2017
Let me add my voice to the large number of people who agree with the judge's ruling and think the city of Steamboat Springs should not appeal it.
Housing shortages and surpluses come and go with the economy. Not long ago, council granted a waiver to Wildhorse to unrestrict restricted units, mainly because of poor housing market conditions.
But the bricks and mortar of buildings too high and densities too great will shape the community's identity through booms and recessions for the next hundred years. Much community thought went into the community development code: such considered opinions should guide us, not hasty variances pressured by special pleadings.
I have been a developer and understand their frustrations, but the community must come first.
