Best Realtor: Jon Wade

— In a town with hundreds of real estate professionals, standing out above the rest takes hard work, and plenty of kindness.

Realtor Jon Wade of The Steamboat Group learned the recipe for success while fishing for catfish with his grandfather in southern Illinois as a young boy.

"He told me, 'if you take care of others, you don't have to worry about yourself,'" Wade says.

It's on that principle that Wade has built his business of helping out-of-towners and locals alike with their home purchase or sale.

"I just have a higher standard," says Wade, whose group has 67 closed and pending transactions so far this year. "If you're known to take good care of people, you're going to get a better outcome for everyone."

Wade says he isn't afraid to tell a buyer that the home they want isn't worth their money, and while competition exists, Wade likes to play nice with other brokers.

"I actively try to be great to deal with," Wade says. "There are lots of brokers, and we may compete, but we're psyched when we do a deal together."

Wade is also committed to giving back, and his realty group recently founded The Steamboat Group Fund at Yampa Valley Community Foundation, a charitable fund that brokers in his group donate to every time they close a sale.

The group pools the money and then grants it to local non-profits Wade's employees are passionate about.

Whether it's $10,000 or $2 million on the table, Wade says his favorite transactions always involves a Steamboat local.

"My favorite deal every year is helping some local find a house," says Wade. "It's really fun to dive in and answer every question, and then finally helping them move in."
