Best Dog: Duncan, the chocolate lab

Scott Franz

Duncan has a fondness for moonlight walks through Rita Valentine Park and dirty socks.

Steamboat's top dog enjoys popcorn, Kraft Singles, Cheetos, dirty socks and moonlight walks through Rita Valentine Park.

And every year on his birthday, Duncan gets a Happy Meal from McDonald's.

He reportedly shares the soda, but he's not as generous with the burger and fries.

"He's like our furry kid," owner Scott Norris says of the 3-year-old chocolate lab.

"He's never met a dog or person he didn't like. Although, the same can't be said of birds. He has a dislike of magpies and crows."

Duncan is the official greeter at the Alpine Bank in Steamboat Springs.

His presence is often requested by the bank's customers.

When he's not making the bank a more enjoyable place, Duncan can be found hiking, jumping in the Yampa River and even having fun dressing up as a Ghostbuster on Halloween.

Norris says Duncan lives for games of Frisbee, and loves to dive in deep snow.

Norris said Duncan is thankful for being voted the best dog in Steamboat, where the competition for that title is fierce.

Duncan is one of an estimated 5,500 dogs who call the city home.

"Duncan is excited to be considered for anything, as it will surely get him more attention, and thus extra love," Norris says.

Duncan comes from a big dog family.

The dog and his five brothers and sisters were born in Grand Junction.
