STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — It’s another busy summer weekend in Steamboat Springs with hot air balloons filling the skies, Art in the Park and a family-friendly summer festival 30 minutes to the west in Hayden.

The Steamboat Springs Chamber Resort Association recently received a report that shows occupancy is expected to be at 70 percent this weekend. That is a little lower than last weekend as well as compared with the same weekend last year.

Steamboat Chamber Marketing Director Laura Soard said events last year were more consolidated on certain weekends.

West of town, the two-day Hayden Daze festival started Friday.

On Saturday, the festival begins with a community breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. at Mountain Valley Bank. Additional events include a disc golf tournament, an extreme obstacle course, a bouncy house and a mechanical bull, all at Dry Creek Park.

The annual Hayden Daze parade begins at 10:30 a.m. Saturday with family entertainment throughout the day featuring a “Touch a Truck” exhibit with emergency vehicles.

New this year, there will be a home run derby that will benefit Hayden’s youth baseball program. The cost to compete is $10.

The sixth annual Hayden Daze cornhole tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday with vendor booths and a beer garden continuing until 5 p.m. There will also be entertainment featuring musicians Randy Kelley, Jon Gibbs, Willie Samuelson and Pat Waters.
