Another successful Steamboat Shoot-Out

Dave Shively

Saturday evening’s championship games brought an end to another successful year for the Steamboat Springs Shoot-Out boys and girls high school basketball tournament.

Liberty beat Aspen, 73-43, to capture the boys championship, and Green River beat Montrose, 36-34, to win the girls side.

Unfortunately, the Sailors were not particularly successful. The boys team finished fourth, and the girls team finished eighth.

D’Evelyn’s 6-foot-9-inch center Andrew Hooper topped the list of the boys nine All-Tournament Team players, six of which were 6-foot-4 or taller.

Two Steamboat players, Michael Vandahl and Aaron Calkins, made the All-Tournament Team, which was selected by the eight tournament coaches.

Liberty’s Marcus Molinari was voted the boys tournament MVP and made the team along with the Vandahl, Calkins, Hooper and the following players: Bo Shonka (Liberty), Ames Rader (D’Evelyn), Torrey Udall (Roaring Fork), Cory Parker (Aspen) and Jeff Dolan (Conifer).
