3rd period dooms Steamboat hockey team

Joel Reichenberger

— The Steamboat Springs High School hockey team slipped to 0-4 on Monday night, falling, 4-2, on the road playing at Summit High School.

The Sailors led into the third period of the game but couldn’t hold off a game-clinching, three-goal rally from the Tigers.

Summit scored first, but Steamboat bounced back, getting a goal from Jack McNamara in the first period and one from Scott Brown in the second.

Steamboat couldn’t stop Summit’s third-period onslaught, however. Ben Schoeffield scored twice for Summit and Ryan Rodgers scored once, giving the Tigers the win.

It was the second game in a row the Sailors went into the final frame with the lead.

Steamboat will try to close out in its next chance Friday on the road at Dakota Ridge, which has started 2-0 this season.
