38 4-H kids from Routt County attend district leadership retreat

Routt County 4-H took 38 members, age 10 to 18, to the 4-H District Retreat in Glenwood Springs to participate in leadership events and workshops. The event attracted a total of 160 4-H members from across Northwest Colorado.
The theme was natural disasters and included a keynote speech by Debrah Schnackenberg, who is the Douglas County emergency management coordinator and former director of PetAid Disaster Services. Senior members worked through a tabletop exercise based around an actual natural disaster, and younger members learned about thunderstorms and electricity, leadership, and how to make soap and lip balm.
The 4-H members also elected 2018 District 12 officers and several Routt County members are among the new leadership team. Cosette McLaughlin is outgoing president, Dyllan Spitzley is secretary, Leona Thurston is treasurer and Karyn Forbes is treasurer.
