25-point 4th quarter lifts Soroco girls basketball to win

Steamboat Springs — Once again, Soroco High School girls basketball proved its fourth-quarter conditioning can be enough to seal a victory, no matter how the rest of the game has gone.
Saturday afternoon, the Rams staved off a third-quarter West Grand rally to pummel the Mustangs, 64-47, for their third-straight win and 13th on the season.
Soroco (13-4, 4-3 league) led 29-16 at half, but West Grand cut into the Rams' lead by the time the fourth quarter rolled around, trailing by just one.
"The fourth quarter our kids had the will to win," Soroco coach David Bruner said. "We scored 25 points in the fourth quarter. It was a great, solid game. They have a solid team."
The Rams had four players in double figures — Jacey Schlegel, DaKota Bruner, Morgan George and Jessica Rossi.
Bruner said he implemented some box-and-one defensive strategy against West Grand, and George and Hayley Johnson rose to the occasion.

"We had a good spread there, a good balance," Bruner said. "It makes it tough to guard with that balance."
Soroco's next game is Saturday at Plateau Valley before returning home Feb. 21 to take on cross-county rival Hayden at home.
