May 11, 2018
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — In the weeds with house and gardening projects? Mark your calendar for Saturday, May 12 when the 2018 Home & Garden Expo comes to its new location at the Depot Art Center along the Yampa River at 1001 13th St. in downtown Steamboat Springs.
Running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and sponsored by the Steamboat Pilot & Today and Affordable Flooring Warehouse, the free event features a potpourri of exhibitors and vendors from the local home and garden industry, showcasing the newest products and home maintenance and gardening techniques. It will also feature special lawn and garden advice from CSU master gardeners.
"The Home & Garden Expo is a great place to see what products local businesses are offering this year for your garden," says Todd Hagenbuch, Routt County agricultural extension agent. "And if you have questions about how to use those products or how to best manage your garden, the CSU master gardeners are there to help with the expertise you need."
Rain or shine, the event offers something for the whole family, with kids activities, a seed planting station, an appearance by the Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue and more. Eager gardeners and residents who love home improvement projects can use it to get a jumpstart on the summer season that, with the past few days' warm temperatures, is fast approaching.
"This definitely kicks off our busy season," said The Lawn Lady's Heidi Neeley, who regularly hands out seed pods and other giveaways at the event. "It's a great event to get out and see some friendly faces."
A variety of informational booths and vendors will participate in the event, which is expected to draw hundreds of guests to the Depot. The event also includes free hot dogs provided by Steamboat Pilot & Today and local 4-H volunteers, with KBCR broadcasting live from the event and great prize giveaways.
