STEAMBOAT SPRINGS — From watching hot air balloons illuminate the base of Steamboat Ski Area, dancing the night away with Andy Frasco and the Russ Liquid Test or meeting one of Steamboat's Olympians, Explore has you covered on what to do and where to go this weekend.

Friday, Feb. 16

"A Taste of History: Cast Iron/Dutch Oven Cooking”

Noon to 1 p.m. | Tread of Pioneers Museum, 800 Oak St.

Nancy Mucklow and friends will discuss the origins of Dutch oven cooking and how these are used to make various recipes. Featured recipes for egg strata, stew and dessert along with tastings for the audience.

Steamboat Balloon Glow and fireworks

5:30 and 7:30 p.m. | Steamboat Ski Resort, 2305 Mount Werner Circle

Enjoy an evening of excitement including night skiing and rides on the Outlaw Mountain Coaster. Watch at 5:30 p.m. as hot air balloons light up the base area and then boogie down in Gondola Square with a DJ dance party. The grand finale is at 7:30 p.m. with fireworks.

Nerf or Nothin

8 to 10 p.m. | Steamboat Springs High School, 45 Maple St.

This tournament is open to all Routt County high school students. The cost is $3 per entry, and Steamboat Springs Teen Council will provide Nerf guns and ammo, although people are encouraged to bring their own. Averaging 250 shows per year and making their way to Steamboat this weekend, Andy Frasco & The U.N describe themselves as "party blues with a touch of barefoot boogie."

Winter Plein Air

Join Chula Beauregard at the Carpenter Ranch Visitor Center to paint in the Winter Plein Air Workshop. The workshop includes warm coffee and treats.

Faction On Ski Demos

9 a.m. to 3 p.m. | Saturday and Sunday | Steamboat Ski & Bike Kare, 2250 Apres Ski Way

Steamboat Ski & Bike Kare will host two free demo days with Faction Skis at their mountain location.

Debunk the Winter Funk

10 a.m. to 2 p.m. | Stagecoach State Park, 25500 Routt County Road 14, Oak Creek

Got the winter blues? Colorado Parks & Wildlife is providing a cool way to shake off the winter doldrums and "debunk the winter funk" with a variety of free outdoor, family activities at Stagecoach State Park's Marina area, including a bonfire with s'mores, sledding and ski bikes, ice fishing, a guided snowshoe hike, an avalanche beacon class, archery and more. Leashed pets are welcome.

Meet an Olympian: Ann Battelle

11 a.m. to noon | Steamboat Ski Area, 2305 Mount Werner Circle

"Meet an Olympian" will be held at the Olympian display on the second floor of Thunderhead Lodge at the top of the gondola, giving people an opportunity to learn what it’s like to compete at an elite level. Hot cocoa and Champagne Powder doughnuts will be served.

Sunsquabi

10 p.m. | Old Town Pub, 600 Lincoln Ave.

Sunsquabi will take the stage with special guest Artifakts, offering electronic, hydro funk.

Sunday, Feb. 18

The Russ Liquid Test with Maddy O’Neal

10 p.m. | Old Town Pub, 600 Lincoln Ave.

Russ Liquid Test creates a fusion of raw, classic funk with an inventive sound design and electronic production. The group will share the stage with Maddy O’Neal, who creates an old-school, hip-hop-infused rock show with flawless spinning and creative mash-ups.
