Steamboat’s Strings Music Festival kicks off its 26th season
June 22, 2013
Steamboat Springs — Strings Music Festival's 26th year is upon us, and we're excited to present another summer of award-winning classical artists, engaging kids' programs and exciting Different Tempo performances.
This summer, Strings is pleased to welcome C Street Brass as Young Artists in Residence. C Street Brass will be in Steamboat for three weeks while performing Music on the Green programs, youth and family concerts, classical programs and a special collaboration with Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School and Camp. Ensemble in residence at Carnegie Mellon University and self-described as "the most handsome men to ever grace the Earth," these five gentlemen are talented, creative and funny. C Street Brass kicks off the Youth and Family Concert series at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m Tuesday. The shows feature a combination of Broadway hits, Latin rhythms, juggling and more. And remember, kids are only $1.
Last week, Caliente got us off to a hot start at the first Music on the Green program of the year at the Yampa River Botanic Park. This week, C Street Brass takes us on a tour of North and South America with music by Cole Porter, Leonard Bernstein and Astor Piazzolla. We take a break from the music next Thursday to celebrate the Fourth of July and then we are back with the C Street guys for a program to celebrate summertime with music of John Philip Sousa and George Gershwin. The Tesla Quartet returns this summer for two programs July 18 and 25, then we have three weeks featuring the best local talent of Steamboat: Old Town Pickers on Aug. 1, Paul Potyen on Aug. 8 and Missed the Boat on Aug. 15. It's beautiful and sunny out there, so be sure to bring sunscreen and your picnic basket and join us every Thursday at lunchtime.
The festival officially starts this coming weekend with two concerts, Under the Streetlamp on Saturday and the Strings Festival Orchestra on Sunday. Read more about these concerts in the Explore Steamboat section of Friday's Steamboat Today. For all of our great concerts this summer, don't miss our half-price classical tickets available at the box office. Also check out our website at http://www.stringsmusicfestival.com for rush seats available all summer long.
