Steamboat’s club freestyle skiers excel
Dyer grabs three podiums in weekend event at Telluride
February 19, 2010
Denver — Two early season crashes — one at the U.S. Ski Team freestyle selections event in December and another at a January event in Steamboat — left Ryan Dyer off the NorAm circuit this season.
It didn't, however, do much to keep the local freestyle skier from doing what he does best. Dyer's rebound this season hit on a new level last weekend as he dominated a Rocky Mountain regional freestyle event in Telluride.
Dyer took the championship in two of the weekend's events, a single mogul competition and the lone duals event. Then he was third in the other singles competition, grabbing a spot on the podium in each of the tournament's events.
"He's one of the top skiers in the region, but to be that consistent is just amazing," Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club freestyle coach Nate Bird said. "He's good enough he should be on the NorAm tour, but he's skiing in the regional events, and he's skiing his best."
Steamboat also picked up top results in the same event from Pip Sparrow on the girls side, who tied for ninth in the dual moguls and was ninth in each of the singles moguls events.
Luke Farney was fifth on the boys side in one singles event. Bennett Roukema was ninth in the same competition.
