Steamboat Briefs: Open house to recognize after-school programs

Pilot & Today Staff

The city of Steamboat Springs’ Afterschool Action program will celebrate “Lights on Afterschool,” a nationwide initiative to recognize the need for quality after-school programs, during an open house today.

The open house will be at 4:30 p.m. at Soda Creek Elementary School.

“The whole point of the nationwide event is to promote awareness about how important after-school programs are,” said Jennifer Travis, the youth program coordinator for the city’s parks and recreation department.

Travis said the open house also would provide families with information about the city’s after-school and daytime program, School Day’s Off. Families and their children will be able to meet staff and see the program’s facility at Soda Creek. Drama Enrichment Club will take place at 4:45 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
