Ski Town USA Golf Classic looks for entrants

Luke Graham

— Golfers looking for the chance to help a pair of local charities and play two courses in two days still have the opportunity.

The 13th annual Ski Town Classic golf tournament still is ooking for golfers. The two-day tournament takes place June 18 and 19 at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club and Catamount Ranch & Club.

Golfers will play one of the courses each day, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start both days.

The tournament and coinciding live and silent auction are fundraisers for the Routt County United Way and the Rotary Club of Steamboat Springs.

The live and silent auctions are at 6:30 p.m. June 18 at the Sheraton Steamboat Resort.

Tickets to the silent auction are $60. Registration for the golf is $1,350 for a foursome or $350 per player.

There also will be a registration and check-in party at 5 p.m. June 17 at Alpine Bank.

In the past, the tournament has raised more than $100,000. But with the economy lagging, Ski Town Classic Co-Chairman John Kerst said they lowered the cost of entry into the tournament in an attempt to draw more interest.

"At this point, we want to get as many golfers as possible," he said. "We'd like to have a field of 140."

The Auction Committee still is seeking items.

The committee is trying to group together similar auction items in hopes of raising more funds for each item auctioned.

Auction items include a hot tub and trips to Florida, Maine, Chicago, Mexico and Whistler, British Columbia.

Other items include jewelry, patio furniture and tickets to sporting events, such as courtside tickets to the Denver Nuggets. Small-ticket items from across town include car detailing, gift certificates, tennis lessons and guided trips

"It's an awesome event, and it's a lot of fun," said Michelle Garner, who is part of the Auction Committee. "I would really encourage people to make it to the event."
