Ski area making snow
Process began amid storm Tuesday, Ski Corp. reports

Steamboat Springs — Flakes are flying at the Steamboat Ski Area, Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp. officials reported Thursday.
The resort began making snow at midnight Tuesday, spokeswoman Loryn Kasten said, as the season’s first significant snow fell from the sky. The ski area recorded 7 inches of natural snowfall Wednesday.
“We’re excited,” said Rob Perlman, Ski Corp. vice president of sales and marketing. “This has kind of brightened the mood around here. It reminds people that winter is upon us : and the ski area opens in less than 20 days.”
The slopes are slated to open Nov. 26 for Scholarship Day, and Ski Corp. is ramping up efforts to book early season visitors. The company delayed a push until after Tuesday’s election, Perlman said last week, figuring that people would be buried in election-related information.
As part of its marketing, Ski Corp. is offering free lift tickets to people who book at least three nights of lodging through Steamboat Central Reservations. The special runs from Nov. 26 to Dec. 25, and those who want to participate must book by opening day.
“We understand folks are looking for great deals when it comes to vacations now,” Perlman said. “We think we’ve stepped up in a big way.”

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction forecast more snow for Steamboat on its Web site. A low of 25 degrees was expected Saturday with a 20 percent chance of precipitation, and a 50 percent chance of precipitation was predicted for Sunday.
Snow was listed as likely for Sunday night and possible for Monday.
He’s no meteorologist, but Perlman, a nearly lifelong Coloradan, predicted good things.
“It will snow this season,” he said. “It will snow quite a bit.”
