School Board to examine CSAP scores

Zach Fridell

— The Steamboat Springs School Board will review the progress of Steamboat students on Colorado Student Assessment Program tests during a presentation Monday night.

JoAnne Hilton-Gabeler, director of curriculum, instruction and assessment for the Steamboat Springs School District, will show the test scores from the 2007-08 school year in a historical context and compare growth rates from previous years.

The presentation also will show the strengths, weaknesses and gaps in the test results.

Monday’s meeting also will include input from Steamboat Springs Middle School faculty and staff, who the School Board has asked to attend the meeting to offer opinions on district policies as part of a comprehensive review process.

Board President Robin Crossan, in her invitation to the staff, said the board plans to use the information derived from the session to “develop more specific expectations about priorities and results for students, which in turn will become key aspects of our direction to the Superintendent.”

The board has previously sought input from other school staff, but the efforts were not widely publicized and attendance was low.
