Steamboat Springs — Steamboat skiers will have the chance to see two legendary last names and acts from bluegrass to punkish rock in this year’s Bud Light Rocks the ‘Boat free concert series.
The lineup, announced Friday by Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., features free sets from Devon Allman (son of Gregg) and Ky-Mani Marley (related to Bob). Also on the bill are longtime Southern punk rockers Cowboy Mouth, bluegrass man Jeff Austin (of Yonder Mountain String Band), jam favorites Rusted Root and classic rockers The Radiators.
Devon Allman’s Honeytribe kicks off the series Saturday, Feb. 16, with a two-hour concert starting at 3 p.m. in Gondola Square.
Concert promoter John Waldman of Great Knight Productions, who booked this year’s series, said he is pleased with the variety of the acts.
“Everyone offers something a little bit different. Some are definitely in the same genre – if you take Rusted Root and Devon Allman you’re in the jam band scene – but we try and offer different styles to keep it fun,” Waldman said.
Bands are selected for their ability to offer something different from the rest of the series, as well as quality and name recognition, Waldman said. Already being on a spring tour and fitting into the pricing framework of a Bud Light sponsorship doesn’t hurt, either.

“We tend to pick bands that kind of embody the spirit of Steamboat, that people will recognize and have a good time listening to,” Ski Corp. spokeswoman Heidi Thomsen said.
