Steamboat Springs — Skiers and riders will have 11 more trails to make turns on this weekend at Steamboat Ski Area.
And there’s a chance some natural snow could accompany the new terrain.
The ski area Saturday is opening the Sundown and Elkhead lifts, providing access to a number of new trails on Sunshine Peak.
"We are preparing for a wonderful holiday season in Ski Town, U.S.A and one of the first steps in that direction is opening more terrain for skiers and riders to enjoy," Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer for the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corp., was quoted as saying in a news release. "Our mountain teams have done a tremendous job busting through the unique crust layer we experienced last week in order to open new terrain. We will continue to focus on providing more lifts and trails as we near the end of the year."
The ski area’s terrain is expanding to nearly 730 acres.
New trails opening this weekend include Rolex, See Me, Westside, Broadway, Rendezvous Way and Sundial.
