— It's music, craft beer, skiing and a pun, all at a single tour. On Feb. 18, Kyle Hollingsworth Band plays at Schmiggity's during its BrewSki Tour 2017.

"It's a way of connecting two worlds (music and beer)," Hollingsworth said, "and connecting my two passions.

"How I approach beer is pretty similar to how I approach music,” Hollingsworth said. “You think something is brewing in the kettle, but the results aren't exactly what you're expecting — it's a completely different product. You roll with the punches."

During the tour's shows, a beer specifically for this year's tour will be on tap. Hoppopotamus is a Belgian-style hoppy blonde ale, made by Hollingsworth and Fort Collins' Funkwerks brewery. With mandarin orange puree and citra, Mandarina Bavaria and lemondrop hops, the beer is said to be an easy drinker that "pairs well with jam bands," according to Funkwerks' website.

"It's kind of a strong one, definitely hopped up more than usual, with really nice floral notes," Hollingsworth said. "I'm really excited about it."

As for the skiing, Hollingsworth is more of a cross-country skier than downhill, but during this tour he'll probably sit out on both. About six weeks ago, he broke his wrist; his cast was removed Monday.

"The doctor said, 'Don't play (keyboard) with your cast on,' but I didn't listen to him," Hollingsworth said cheerfully.

He's retraining the wrist on keyboard and notes it's challenging, but he’s undaunted about playing the upcoming shows.

"We just came out with a new batch of tunes," Hollingsworth said. "SCI got a new practice space, so I've been sneaking in and doing a lot of new material."

The new songs have been a hit when played the past few weekends,.

"This most recent batch has been more in the jam world than I've really written before," Hollingsworth said. "There's lots of parts moving around. It's kind of tailor-made for the crowd that enjoys the expanded jam."

Hollingsworth expects to have another album out by the end of this year.

Besides The String Cheese Incident and the Kyle Hollingsworth Band, Hollingsworth also has played with Paul Simon, Bruce Hornsby, Bela Fleck, Phil Lesh and Mickey Hart.
