Kay Weinland: Proud of Routt

Kay Weinland

The historical 2008 Presidential Election is now a memory. Thanks to overwhelming countywide effort and support, the election was a success. As I reflect on the process that made it all possible, my heart is filled with a tremendous amount of gratitude. The work to provide a successful election in 2008 began immediately after the 2006 election and required a countywide team effort.

A huge thank you goes to the Citizens Election Review Committee, which began mapping the way, and the Routt County Board of Commissioners, which laid the foundation by providing the support and resources necessary for success. I am extremely grateful to a large number of hardworking and dedicated Routt County employees, including the staff in the Clerk and Recorder’s Office who put many long hours into the process. We could not do it without the assistance and support from the county IT department, maintenance department, accounting department, purchasing, the county attorney and staff, and a number of other county employees who offered their time and support to the process. Thanks to you all! The list of community volunteers that my gratitude goes out to includes the many election judges who faithfully serve our community. The political party volunteers, all of the candidates and their committees also deserve a bow.

I am thankful for the voter education and information provided to our residents by the local press, radio stations, service clubs and numerous other organizations and individuals. Postal employees, whose efficiency assured mail-in ballots were received, and those businesses and organizations that provide polling locations deserve thanks.

Routt County voters showed up to vote in historic numbers, prepared for the lengthy ballot, and once again beat the statewide turnout percentages. You all add to my appreciation and pride. Routt County voters are the best. I truly am proud and honored to serve as your clerk and recorder. We are blessed to live in Routt County.

God bless America.
