Denver Film Critics honor 2014’s best movies
January 16, 2015
Earlier this week, Denver Film Critics Society awarded "American Sniper" with Best Picture.
The Colorado-based group that spread the honors acknowledged many 2014's best films, with "Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance)" scoring the most, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Score and Best Cinematography.
Bradley Cooper's performance as Chris Kyle in "American Sniper" tied with Ralph Fiennes' comic turn in "The Grand Budapest Hotel" for Best Actor honors, with Rosamund Pike winning Best Actress for "Gone Girl."
In the supporting actor categories, J.K. Simmons won for "Whiplash" while Patricia Arquette's conflicted matriarch gave "Boyhood" one of its two honors.
DFCS consists of film critics and writers around Colorado, including The Denver Post's Lisa Kennedy; Benjamin Kendrick, of Screen Rant; Northwest Colorado's Andy Bockelman; and more.
