Bryce Jacobson: Welcome back the hunters, Craig

Bryce Jacobson

The sea of Orange and Camouflage has arrived in Craig.

As I drive around Craig these days, it is amazing how many pickup trucks are pulling trailers with ATVs or campers.

This is our time to shine fellow Craig residents. Let’s be friendly and accommodating and provide the best damn customer service that we can. Let’s encourage our guests to come year after year after year, and maybe even bring their families back during the summer to enjoy our backyard.

When stubbornness is good :

Every day when you turn on the evening news, you are hearing about the presidential election in a couple of weeks and the impending recession that is upon us. Locally, though, I am hearing that sales may be flat but not declining.

It is my guess that the oil and gas traffic through our area is assisting us to maintain the local economy, but I am positive that the great people of Craig and Moffat County are using their natural stubbornness to ward off the major effects of a recession locally.

Local company breaks ground at CNCC

Colorado Northwestern Community College broke ground this week on their new campus on the hill. This is exciting news for our community. The new campus will have many benefits for Craig and Moffat County, drawing in students, faculty and business.

What’s more, local contractor Anson Excavating & Pipe Inc., owned by Mike and Mardi Anson, is the general contractor on Phase I – Infrastructure.

Other than the dirt work, Anson also will ensure that the sewer line is installed and the water main. This work is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 15, depending on weather.

Anson has been in business for about 10.5 years and currently has 45 employees.

New face, smells at Masterworks Mechanical

Brenda Lyons, after 5.5 years at the Moffat County Clerk and Recorder’s office, joined Masterworks Mechanical, Inc. on Sept. 2. Lyons is now the office manager for the local plumbing and heating contractor.

If you ask my opinion, Lyons brings a little sensitivity to the Masterworks office. Every time you walk in there now, you will smell the scented candles burning : yep, just what you want when you are shopping for a heater, the smell of burning candles.

“These guys are awesome to work with, hard workers and really good people,” Lyons said of her new employer.

Lyons also sells Lia Sophia jewelry on the side and has been doing so for about five years.
