Art Steamboat finalists announced, workshop schedule released

Steamboat Springs — Finalists have been selected for the inaugural Art Steamboat competition, which will be held during the fifth annual All Arts Festival in August in Steamboat Springs. The 30 finalists, who hail from a variety of western states, will be competing for a $10,000 grand prize.
"I am so proud that many of our exceptional local artists are finalists, which emphasizes the quality of our own art community, in addition to highlighting quality artists from around the West," Art Steamboat co-found Betse Grassby said. "Art collectors and connoisseurs aren't going to want to miss the opportunity to take in such a mass of quality work in one location. This exciting, collaborative effort helps tell the story of Steamboat's vibrant and rich arts culture."
Finalists are Kevin Aldrich, Robert Gray, Bonnie McGee, Chula Beauregard, Grace Haverty, Margueritte Meier, Theresa Beckemeyer, Tom Herbert, Julie Nighswonger, Daniel Benjamin, Monroe Hodder, Mary Pape, Cherie Duty, Israel Holloway, Sandi Poltorak, Gregory Effinger, Shelley Hull, Cheryl Price, Mary Pat Ettinger, Susan Jackson, Marilyn Schutzky, Nicole Finger, Nancy Jeffrey, Ruth Soller, Kathryn Fresques, Joy Keown, Jo Toye, Elle Gould, Jessica Lobeck and Jan Maret Willman.
On Aug. 1, their works will be hung at art galleries including Steamboat Art Museum, Mangelsen Images of Nature Gallery, Circle 7 Fine Art, Center for Visual Arts and the Depot Art Center.
Art Steamboat judge, award-winning painter and author Betsy Dillard Stroud will preside over the competition as well as offer creative workshops including critiques and painting instruction. The Art Steamboat Awards Ceremony and Sale will take place at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Depot Art Center.
