Another snowstorm pounds Steamboat
April 3, 2009
Steamboat Springs — Another major snowstorm has begun to pound Steamboat Springs. By Saturday night, an additional 5 to 10 inches of snow could accumulate in town. Between 10 and 20 inches could fall on the slopes of the Steamboat Ski Area.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the city of Steamboat Springs, and a winter storm warning for the mountains surrounding Steamboat, including Mount Werner. The advisory and warning are in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Snow is expected to become widespread and heavy tonight, with gusty winds accompanying the storm. Tonight’s low temperature is forecast at 22 degrees, with a high Saturday of 33. Saturday night’s low will dip into the single digits.
The Steamboat Ski Area needs only a foot of snow to hit the 400-inch mark for the season. The ski area closes April 12.
The National Weather Service predicts hazardous driving conditions during the storm, particularly over mountain passes.
