The downhill event was epic. There might not be a better fan base than the downhill fans that follow it. There were 6,000 plus spectators there on Monday. The Swiss and Austrians are the best. One Swiss guy had a bell he was ringing that was the size of a small child. They all dress the same and chant in unison. That and the downhill is one of the most visually appealing sports. Nothing like guys going 70 mph down the course.
—— Met the lone media member from Macedonia Monday. Real big guy that was fluent in 12 languages. Very interesting guy. He's most covering cross-country skiing and biathlon. He's staying in Vancouver and has to commute to Whistler every single day. Being the only media member from Macedonia he said he's sort of a a celebrity back home. Also some interesting newspaper notes. — The paper he works for has a circulation of 12,000, and his sports section is the biggest in the country. — Cost for a full page ad is around $500. — 80 percent of the revenue for his paper is from people actually buying it. 20 percent comes from advertising.
—— We're in Cypress covering the women's snoboard cross events. The start to the event has been pushed back two hours because of fog. The fog is so thick it's tough to see 15 feet in front of you.
