Nordic Combined training

John and I just got our first look at the Nordic combined complex. It's pretty neat what they've done. It's very similar to Howelsen in its layout.

The ski jumping competition opens up the Olympics today with the opening ceremonies tonight. John and I are hoping to talk to the U.S. Nordic combined athletes today to see how they feel just two days from the first competition — and one where expectations are riding really high.

"Every day is different," Billy Demong said in a U.S. Team release on Thursday after jump training. "Nordic combined is exciting in that sometimes it seems like somebody is down and out, and they're not. It really depends on where other people are.

"If some of the faster skiers start a minute behind and win, they may still catch everybody and win. That's what makes it exciting. This hill definitely seemed pretty tight by the end of the third round" Thursday.

Brett Camerota had the second longest jump of the third round on Thursday.

Cross-country training is going on today and the normal hill competition begins on Sunday. Todd Lodwick won a World Championship on the normal hill competition last year in Liberec, Czech Republic.
