Met several locals in a pub after the Nordic combined today. It seems most are 50/50 on the Olympics. There are those that worry about the costs (estimated $1.6 billion to put it on) and the inconveniences it brings to the day-in, day-out routine. Others, like a guy named Dan I met earlier, said the bottom line is the Olympics were going to be here no matter what, so you should enjoy it. Dan, who was a student, said his school gave him the Olympics off. He was fresh off of skiing Whistler and said the strange weather isn't limited to Olympic venues. Near the top of the Whistler mountain, he skied thigh deep powder. But soon he descended into ice and then into slush, where it was raining near the bottom of the mountain. And while the Opening Ceremonies are in Vancouver, Whistler isn't without celebration. In fact most areas were packed. As Dan liked to say "Whistler is the Cancun of the North." Touche Dan.
