Mrs. Bell September 18,2007 American Literature War Photo He awakens in a bunker. He tries to peek over, only to find out that his legs are gone. He looks around he only sees dead, rotten bodies covered in flies. His team must have thought he was dead, and so they left him in the trench. He pulls himself into a sitting position, and an enemy soldier walks up to the trench, good thing he had his rifle next to him. He aims, takes his time, and then pulls the trigger. He sees the enemy soldier drop to the ground. He lays his rifle down next to him, and he starts to wonder about what he was fighting for, was it his country, or he felt like he had to fight to be a good American. It was getting cold and the soldier is losing countless amounts of blood from where his legs used to be. He starts to remember his family and how much he misses them, but as soon as he thinks of his family he sees a grenade drop into the trench; he waits and watches the grenade closely until it explodes.
