Mr. President. It must be nice to make your speeches and make your decisions about the war in a nice safe office thousands of miles away. It must be nice to pin medals on soldiers for acts that occurred in a place that is so detached from the nice and orderly ceremony. It must be nice. You never have to see what war really is. You never see the fear, the suspense. At any moment one of the men in this photo could draw his last breath. The men crouch behind any cover they can find, and peer out into the sandy gloom. Where in the depths of the sandstorm are the bullets coming from? No one who hasn't been in a war and felt the dread of imminent death can know what it's like. So next time, before you decide the fate of thousands of American men and women, walk a mile in the sand encrusted boots of a soldier. What will you decide then? By Jeff Lambart
