How to find the "mixing it up" music
In this week's "Mixing it up: A local's favorite tunes," the tunes are my favorites. But, some of them are a little bit on the out there side, and might be hard to find. Here's some links/explanations: Side A: Parts & Labor ("Visions of Repair," from their May 2007 release, ...

Did you ever think you would see million dollar homes for sale in the Silver Spur Subdivision?
Trailhead in Big D
The volume of breaking news in Steamboat's real estate, development and business communities has accelerated to the point that I'm going to bust it out in a blog so you can stay ahead of it
yay, it's the 4th of July!
The fireworks show was pathetic. Could we possibly cut down the number of displays per year and give Independence Day the justice it deserves? i almost fell asleep between displays! Isn't the 4th of July synonomous with fireworks? What city displays fireworks on Valentine's Day? As a child, my fondest ...

gas reaches 3.00 a gallon
Interesting reading in today's paper that gas has reached 3.00 a gallon and should go even higher..... This is a sure sign that the top management of most, large oil companies is going to receive huge, unprecedented bonuses soon.

Staffing
About adding two spec ed teacher days per week not even 1/2 a salary Superintendent Reed says: "Circumstances could end up where we could have to cut in another area to provide those services," We're talking about changing a 3 day per week position to a 5 day a week ...
Moving to Steamboat
No offense, however, only Texans and Jim Cook can afford to move here.
Sheriff's Office
I have some suggestions for the new Sheriff. After many years of management experience, I believe that these may help in the transition of the RCSO. 1- Have a separate swearing in so that the staff feel special. 2- Don't show up in the office for a few days (say ...
Gary Wall
To Davinci and the other Wiggins sore losers: GET A LIFE. Gary won the election and Wiggins lost and it was not close. The three that Gary choose not to offer a commitment was a good decision. The sheriff is always free to select to choose those individuals who he believes will best represent the Sheriff's Office and the public that the Sheriff's Office serves. The three that Gary choose not to retain were not worthy to represent the Routt County Sheriffs Office.

Winners, Losers from Tuesday's Election
OK, the big loser is George W. Bush. His presidency is over and he'll be playing defense, with indictments and resignations picking up steam after yesterday's ouster of Donald Rumsfeld. But there were some Democratic winners and losers as well. Hillary Clinton won big, but she was a loser. Sure, she comes from the East, the new powerhouse of Democratic politics, but she now has two things going against her. The Northeast is now so solidly Democratic that it would elect a yellow dog over a Republican. So it's no place to build a presidential campaign from. Second, Democrats are totally sour on the war. Hillary's stubborn determination to not only cling to her vote on the war, but to insist she would do the same thing again is an incredible mistake that will end up costing her the presidency. I think she will not even run. Here's why:
What the Democrats need to do
Yeah, it's way too early, but looking ahead gives us a way to provide some advice to Democrats as they take the reins in both the US House and US Senate (and get undivided control in Colorado.) My advice to national Democrats is to look at what happened in Colorado in 2004. When Democrats took over the state legislature, they didn't do anything foolish. I was concerned that they would work on a gun ban or try to push through social legislation that Colorado just wasn't ready for, but they didn't. They showed restraint and, incredibly, fixed (at least temporarily) a fiscal trainwreck that was coming by passing Referendums C&D. Really solving problems, rather than creating problems for themselves down the road. Second, they governed like they were representing the most conservative members of their caucus, rather than the districts they represent. Where would the Democrats be if they led like they were representing Denver and Boulder, rather than Bernie Buescher's district in Mesa County? Back in the minority. Nancy Pelosi, especially, needs to take heed of that lesson.
Looking Back to Tuesday
What an exciting night. Well, not really. I went to bed at 11:30. But Wednesday morning was really exciting. I honestly can't remember such an exciting Election Day and I've been working elections since 1972. We won nationally, on a state level and locally.
