Tuesday is Editorial Board day at the Steamboat Today. There are five members of the Editorial Board — Me, Editor Brent Boyer, Columnist Tom Ross and community representatives Laura Schmidt and Jim Miller. We meet every Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. to hash out the stances that the Editorial Board will take in editorials published Wednesday and Sunday.
Doing more to engage the public
Last week, I took a trip to the Northeast to take my daughter to visit Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine. The trip gave me an excuse to slip down to Torrington, Conn. to the Register Citizen, a newspaper that is doing some pretty creative stuff to bring their community into their newsroom.
crazy for bears
you know that when bears are this close to children and adults, humans are the next meal your crazy to try and keep bears as pets in the Rocky Mountains!
Now the Smallmouth Bass?
Whats next? The deer? Oh shoot! They did that! And now the deer population is finally making a comback south of Craig. The pike? Big shocker they got them too. The elk? Wait for another bad winter and they should thin out again. The way I see it if the ...
Is City Council thinking of residents or protecting business owners?
Steamboat cannot continue marketing itself, attracting tourist and secondary homeowners, unless they consider the impact on the community, including the goods and services additional residents will require. You can't pick and choose which type of growth you want, one leads to the other. The time to anticipate and discuss additional ...
Accuracy of Article a
jhowell (Jim Howell) says... Unfortunately, I wrote a comment about Tim Nelson's article, but it was not included in the blog area associated with the article. Guess the author and Steamboat Pilot Today cannot take criticism for not having necessay information relative to the woman, Cindy Jordan, who called the ...
Accuracy of Article's Content and Cause
Perhaps, Mr. Fredell should read is previous articles and do a little research of sheriff reports. The arrests, and results of all of the articles written and published had a great negative impact on Mr. Nelson's life.
Best idea for a summer meal in a hurry!!
Christian, great idea, I know alot of people will enjoy your ideas to make sushi rolls enjoyable, affordable and a quick idea for that meal in a rush. The steak rolls are a great idea and the Spostas roll is a great vegan delight. I'm spreading the news that Spostas ...
Near the end
The end is near and it's too soon to sum up what's just happened. Of course all the focus here is on the U.S.-Canada hockey game Sunday. It's a frenzied scene. I spent time in Vancouver tonight and every conversation involves the game, it seemed. It also seems most of ...
Nordic Combined primer, Feb. 25
The conditions are overcast and cloudy. The sun looks like it's trying to spit through. It will be interesting to see what happens for the cross-country portion of the race and if the Americans can get their wax set straight. A look at the contenders: —World cup leader, small hill ...
John takes flight
It can be hard to write about something you’ve never done, eh. So after Nordic combined training wrapped up Wednesday I wanted to head up to the top of the hill to see what I looked like soaring off large hill on a pair of skis. Anything to become a ...
Steamboat's solid Olympic connection
A funny thing happened the other day in Whistler, British Columbia. After 10 days away from my home and family, in a town where it rains more than it snows, I bumped into three guys who reminded me that the world isn’t all that big, and if you are at ...
Remembering Robbins in Vancouver
Somewhere, Paul Robbins is looking down watching the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and he is smiling. He would have loved the scenic backdrop of British Columbia, he would have loved the atmosphere that surrounds these games, and he would have loved all the ski action that is unfolding on the slopes. ...
Nordic combined primer
The Nordic combined team competition will officially begin at 11:30 a.m. MST. It appears like it will be a seven team race for the three medals, with Austria, Germany, Norway, Japan, Finland, France and the United States battling it out. Austria is the defending Olympic champion and leading the FIS ...
How sweet it was
All week — on the bus, in the mixed media zones, in pubs and on the streets — all I heard was how the United States had no shot Sunday against Canada in hockey. Thanks to Ryan Miller, the Americans certainly had a good shot. I watched the first period ...
Excitement brewing
No matter where you go, people are asking if the U.S. Nordic combined team can win the team event on Tuesday. In a word, absolutely. Looking at the splits in the short hill event and seeing where the Americans were at the 5K point, there's no doubt they'll be in ...
Vancouver
On a blue bird day in Vancouver I'm not sure if I've ever seen so many people in my life. The streets are packed, it's impossible to get around in a vehicle and darn near impossible in a bus. The ride in from Cypress Mountain took about 45 minutes longer ...
Vonn-Couver
The women's downhill event was like nothing I'd ever seen. From the amount of media, seemed like there were thousands, to Lindsey Vonn's gold medal and Julia Mancuso's silver. In the mixed media zone, where all the reporters convene like cows in a pen, there was no room to move. ...
