The El Niño weather phenomenon could mean Steamboat Springs won't come close to experiencing the abundance of snow that fell over the city and ski area in December 2005 and January 2006. Routt County is bringing in outside expertise to help sort through Xcel Energy's proposal for a new rail line to haul coal. For the next two summers, Steamboat Springs will play host to a national championship for the country's premier trail runners.
