Am I missing something here? Why did Eldridge have to resign? That may be the real tragedy here.
The Pilot article doesn't do Randall's story justice; see The Denver Post's story from 1-10-08:
Matt - Wait until you see it. Margaret's review was just too reserved - the audience was clapping and joining in on songs within 15 minutes! We see shows in Denver (for 3 times the ticket price) that aren't as good. The songs, choreography and quirky/biting humor are the heart & soul of "Godspell".
Director Mike Brumbaugh nailed it.
Come on, Margaret Hair..."very good for community theater"???? This production is every bit professional level theater.
We saw the performance last night and were blown away! This production is high energy from beginning to end, GREAT VOCALS & PERFORMANCES. There's not a weak link to be found. There were so many hilarious subtleties occurring on stage (and off) that we have to see it again to catch what we missed the first time. The comic timing was right on, and it was a joy to watch each actor step into their own solo spots to showcase their individual talents.
It's even better than many professional theater companies because of the Mountain Theater's small size. Too bad that theater is losing its lease by the end of May 2008 and Steamboat will be back to no venue for live theater.
Water and wastewater utilities continue to deteriorate nationwide and yet we continue to be skeptical about putting money into these utilities. What is more important to your overall well being? Clean water and safe drinking water or another 100 cable TV channels. Most people spend more per month on cable TV, cellphones and the Internet than they do on public utilities.
Thanks, Mike Lawrence for providing such a glowing (and accurate, I think) review and for getting it near the front of the paper. I saw the show the other night and also thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is the time to address traffic problems on the west side of town. At the very least, the road between Dream Island and Elk River Road needs to be widened to 4 lanes!
I agree with another_local and d2 - this project screams to be part of the library expansion! Doesn't anyone else hear it?
I am very much looking forward to the construction of the new Strings tent. I would like to comment however on the apparent lack of availability of the Strings tent for use by other community music organizations such as Emerald City Opera, the Steamboat Springs Chamber Orchestra and the Steamboat Springs Youth Orchestra, to name a few. I thought that special uses required some sort of community benefit beyond that of the organization itself. Wouldn't this new facility provide a wonderful venue for other arts organizations in the community? In a community the size of ours, multi-use of quality facilities should be strongly encouraged. The churches and schools in town have been very supportive of music arts in our community. How about Strings' stepping up to the plate to share their facility with the rest of the community?
