Cindy was remarkably talented, amazingly gracious & truly beautiful inside and out. I will never forget her, or Wednesday Winos....HA!....It was a privilege to have known her. To Bob, Aaron & Hunter, know that we hold you in our prayers. R.I.P. Cindy.
sleuthmom you would be ashamed of your comment regarding Whistler neighbors if you read the letter from the DOW regarding destruction of wild life if park were to get put in. And I quote "Although this area is currently bordered by existing development, Walton Creek still provides important wildlife habitat as well as a migration corridor for many species. Nearby open space land also provides quality habitat, especially for larger mammals." In Oak Creek they took an area that was not a pretty site and made it better. In Whistler they would take a beautinful piece of property and destroy it with a dirt bike park.
This is not just a not in my back yard thing, it's a not a good idea thing. 700 club was not in my back yard, and it was not a good idea either, I voted against it, as did the majority of residents of Steamboat. All of Steamboat, is all of our back yards, it's not so wrong to want to protect the very reasons that brought most of us here in the first place. It certainly is not wrong to protect wild life and open space.
1999 All very good questions on your part. I too think there is something shady about the whole deal, and it's been that way from the start. Bob Vanderbeek has 2 kids in SSWSC and ALOT of money. I can't answer to why they need more bike parks or why they hare so set on destroying this property???

I wonder how many of you know that Blair Seymour is a SSWSC mountain bike coach, I wonder how many people know that Bob Vanderbeek IS Directional Development Foundation. This has SSWSC written all over it, and bike park + SSWSC = $$$$$ for the club. No longer just winter programs, but summer programs too. Also the one neighbor that stood up at a meeting and said, "she lives here, but it will not impact her", works for SSWSC in administration, it will probably just impact her paycheck! I bet no one knows how opposed Don Valentine is to this bike park, he donated the land to the school and to the city, and this is not what he wants to happen. Maybe the Steamboat Today should call him and request an interview, he was also on Mt. Werner Water board for 30 years. Are we really going to destroy open space because SSWSC wants this, no matter the impact on neighbors, wildlife, traffic, dirt infiltration from the park, into our drinking water, and into the Yampa. Shouldn't there be some environmental studies, before you dump a bunch of dirt that close to Walton Creek???

The school board gives it's decision tommorrow night in regards to the proposed bike skill park at Whistler park. I wonder if they are aware of the 74 signatures of neighbors in the area asking Mt. Werner Water to not use the property in this way. I also wonder if they are aware that the people that all stood up in favor of this propasal all had something to gain from it....SSWSC administration and coaches, and bike park designers. I hope that board members will drive out and look at the location of this proposed bike park before they make their decision, and see what they will actually be destroying, with a giant dirt pile! Have you seen how ugly the little one at Mt. Werner is? Is this really how we want Steamboat to look? Blair Seymour should put the "much needed" park in her backyard. vkj
