Part of the problem is we are overstocked with real estate right now. There is no need for additional homes. Mortgages are back to being reasonable, the housing bubble burst (we all knew it would), and now Council needs to fund a bad budget.
Steamboat just went through some major transformations for better or worse. I cant say Ill miss Old lady Liquors. I think its time to take a step back and let the new developments "catch up". Seriously, just take a break. We have room to fill and we could always annex land. Fact of the matter is, the community winds up paying for maintenance on new developments. If we are in such a pickle now, wait till we have to pay for all the maintenance on SB 700.
My property taxes have more than doubled in the last 5 years. In another 5 years I hope I can simply afford them.
Goremtn.. The rec center was 34 million, but, the city was going to need to borrow the money, so with the interest it equalled around 60 million to 70 million.
Goremtn...That rec center was going to cost somewhere around 70 million dollars. Then we would need to pay to use it. I would of been in favor of a smaller project. We don't NEED all the bells and whistles.
Watch, try to retire here in 20 years and you will be driven out of town by property taxes.
Hey its tough times for all. I just dont see why Gov. jobs are hanging on long after private sector jobs have been lost. Actually, I do see why. But thats not the point. Steamboat is not building anything. So, why have a planning department, building department fully staffed? Yeah, Suz, I got empathy for fellow man but not government waste. Nope, I do not want to work at Mcdonalds, you are G.dam right! F&$#% Mcdonalds, what kind of American are you!Ive come to far to go back that way. Luckily I do not HAVE to, not yet. Instead, I have decided to spend needed time with the Fam and better myself so when things do pick up I wont be working at Mcdonalds. Why dont they write an article about the private sector that has been hit so hard and stop coddling the government workers. I think that this economic downturn sux, and what do the Feds do? They turn around and give the banks MORE of our hard earned money without being accountable for any of it! The banks created this mess and we give them more friggin money! Dare I say that the Govnmt. has way too much pork and the only good thing is we will trim it off.
As far as SBS goes, I see my property taxes double in 4 years. I see my water bill double, and now I expect to see services decline, why? because the City is still broke the county is broke but we continue to see the cost of services increasing..where does our money go? I could seriously just limit government to building roads and bridges, thats it! Because they seem to fail at everything else.
I do not see what is wrong with getting an education while the economy sux. Why not Better yourself when you have the time? Or I guess I could work at Walmart!! F&*$# Walmart if thats all you got fine, but that should be a last resort job for any competant American worker, as a nation we are better than that.
Because when times get better and they will, I want to come out swingin'.
I will not post on this again. :)
