A Message to George W. Bush and Dick Cheney From a Dying Veteran

To: George W. Bush and Dick Cheney From: Tomas Young

I write this letter on the 10th anniversary of the Iraq War on behalf of my fellow Iraq War veterans. I write this letter on behalf of the 4,488 soldiers and Marines who died in Iraq. I write this letter on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of veterans who have been wounded and on behalf of those whose wounds, physical and psychological, have destroyed their lives. I am one of those gravely wounded. I was paralyzed in an insurgent ambush in 2004 in Sadr City. My life is coming to an end. I am living under hospice care.

I write this letter on behalf of husbands and wives who have lost spouses, on behalf of children who have lost a parent, on behalf of the fathers and mothers who have lost sons and daughters and on behalf of those who care for the many thousands of my fellow veterans who have brain injuries. I write this letter on behalf of those veterans whose trauma and self-revulsion for what they have witnessed, endured and done in Iraq have led to suicide and on behalf of the active-duty soldiers and Marines who commit, on average, a suicide a day. I write this letter on behalf of the some 1 million Iraqi dead and on behalf of the countless Iraqi wounded. I write this letter on behalf of us all—the human detritus your war has left behind, those who will spend their lives in unending pain and grief. I write this letter, my last letter, to you, Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney. I write not because I think you grasp the terrible human and moral consequences of your lies, manipulation and thirst for wealth and power. I write this letter because, before my own death, I want to make it clear that I, and hundreds of thousands of my fellow veterans, along with millions of my fellow citizens, along with hundreds of millions more in Iraq and the Middle East, know fully who you are and what you have done. You may evade justice but in our eyes you are each guilty of egregious war crimes, of plunder and, finally, of murder, including the murder of thousands of young Americans—my fellow veterans—whose future you stole.

Your positions of authority, your millions of dollars of personal wealth, your public relations consultants, your privilege and your power cannot mask the hollowness of your character. You sent us to fight and die in Iraq after you, Mr. Cheney, dodged the draft in Vietnam, and you, Mr. Bush, went AWOL from your National Guard unit. Your cowardice and selfishness were established decades ago. You were not willing to risk yourselves for our nation but you sent hundreds of thousands of young men and women to be sacrificed in a senseless war with no more thought than it takes to put out the garbage.

By the way,....isn't having Dick Cheney speak at a "Freedom Conference" similar to the euphemism "'Arbeit Macht Frei' - Work Sets You Free. (The entrance sign to Auschwitz.- the prisoners marched under to their deaths- considering the fact, our Constitutional Rights began to deteriorate under the Bush/Cheney administration, leading to the signing of the National Defense Act in Dec 2012. Sure seems like it to me.

My final thought are words spoken to a class I was in studying about the many genocides that have occurred throughout the world, beginning with the genocide of the Native Americans in this country:. "Those that stand by and do or say nothing are just as guilty as those committing the crimes."

And in the event, the powers behind him do not like what I have to say....I would rather go to jail or die, than stand by and say or do nothing out of fear of such a evil human being.

(I failed to mention Dick Cheney's role in the thousands of patriotic men & woman that have died in war and at home defending what they thought was the safety of this country, only to find out the Iraq and Afghanistan attacks by us, were simply screens to further pad Cheney's bank account and had nothing to do with national security at all!)

As an American per the Bill of Rights, - Freedom of Speech, Press, Religion and Petition "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." If anything I said is not true, I apologize deeply, though I know sadly I am not wrong on any of these accounts.

I am not religious, nor political but if there is an anti-Christ Dick Cheney is literally IT I'm not saying it to be vindictive but simply based on the roles he has played in 9/11 and the destruction to this planet by Haliburton.

And what man at his age, has a heart transplant when it should have gone to a young child???? Do I need to say more?????

Why anyone would pay to see this dark, parasitic individual is beyond me.

This man should be in jail, not allowed to speak in a public function!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW, why is being thoroughly educated on a subject soooo threatening to the folks above? Seems to me, if the practice of fracking was truly a harmless practice, there would be no issue in listing all the answers to Lynn's questions. CAN you say red flags in the thinking of the folks listed above and of the industry and the newspaper that has not all ready answered these questions.

Greed and evil, love nothing more than ignorance, secrecy and threats.

I love you Linda for stating this issue perfectly. It is unbelievable how disconnected the masses are from the Earth or the concept of cause and effect. Thank you for writing this.

Dear Fred and the _Lizard,

We drive a 12 year truck with 215,000 miles and a small car with 200,000 miles because we can't afford a Prius or Subaru. We are as far from elitist as you can get, but even we know if you destroy the water you drink, pollute the air you breathe and contaminate the soils so you can't grow healthy food, you not only destroy the environment, but yourself as well. It's called being connected to the source that gives you life. It has nothing to do with being being an elitist, an environmentalist, or anything else....it's called being responsible and not letting greed or financial hardship cloud one's judgment.

As Chief Seattle so eloquently put it "Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons and daughters of the earth. We did not weave the web of life, we are merely strands in it. Whatever we do to the web we do to ourselves” and lastly “Earth does not belong to us; we belong to earth. Take only memories, leave nothing but footprints.” ― Chief Seattle

Oneworld, you are my hero or heroine. The truth is so simple yet greed and ignorance blinds so many. Another huge concern, is the seismic activity fracking is now associated with. We have Twentymile (deep underground coal mine) in Routt County employed with Routt and Moffat citizens risking their lives everyday to go to work. How can anyone in good faith vote for fracking at the possibility of causing a cave in? How could you live with yourself if it happens, with all the seismic links associated with fracking? Please read: http://www.the9billion.com/2012/01/03/4-0-ohio-earthquake-may-be-related-to-fracking-drilling-halted/. Fracking is not only detrimental to the environment but could also be to the hundreds underground everyday. Don't the miners deserve utter respect, courtesy and their safety a thought, since it is their hard work that keeps us warm everyday????? I truly believe so!

Franny, though I may be totally against fracking (primarily), I adore you. Your dry sense of humor still makes me smile.

Sincerely,

an ole friend & coworker of yours who spent many hours on the river with you. (smile)

So who will be responsible when the fracking wells cause wall collapses at Twenty Mile Coal Mine killing hundreds????? Every commissioner that agreed to fracking (including the Moffat County Commissioners with the wells in Moffat) should be personally liable for every person injured or killed due to their greed and lack of due diligence. Period...End of story. Not one person can say, they didn't see it coming!!!!!
