I am a landowner in Brooklyn. My land extends to about the 1/2 way point under the river, obviously I don't own the water, but I own the land under the river. Often I will walk back on the bank, and find trash, broken glass, human feces and other wonderful items. I doubt very seriously if the fishermen have anything to do with this. Several times a week tubers get out of the river and trespass on my property to access the road. When approached, they are rude, entitled, arrogant and certainly not understanding. I believe the tubers are ruining the eco system of the river. Growing up here as a kid, we used to tube the river every summer. Never would I have thought about throwing trash, broken beer bottles and other such items into the river. It is a disgrace.
I have had the priviledge of working with Kerry St. James for over 10 years now. He has prosecuted many cases I have been involved with. I consider myself a staunch conserative, I hate drugs, criminal behavior and the like. I want to go on record as stating that there are very few people I have respect for as I do Kerry St. James. He is well reasoned, and careful not only to do his best to prosecute crime to the fullest extent of the law, but also on the flip side, careful to protect the constitutional rights of the accused, which is one of the principals which make our country great. I can tell you he will be sorely missed in the law enforcement community. Kerry no doubt could have many years ago gone over to the private defense attorney side from the DA's office as many many others have done, and made much more money. I appreciate the years of service to this community and this state. Those individuals who make comments about his firefighting ability in a sarcastic manner need to grow up. You make comments about things when you have no idea what has taken place behind the scenes or the provability of cases when a plea may actually be the best deal for the people. Please don't be ignorant, have your opinion if you must, but at least respect the years of service St. James has given to this community. I have no doubt that this same standard of excellence will be shown with SSFR. Thanks again Kerry!
Everyone laugh at the cops for attempting to contact a skateboarder, but let somebody hit this knucklehead skateboarding (at night) the wrong way on Lincoln, and live with the fact someone got killed or injured, and see how that goes. Since this is so petty (not) lets just get rid of all the "petty" enforcment! 1. All bikes can ride wherever, including down main street sidewalks. Petty to enforce right?
2. Dogs can be let roam loose and off leash without owners around. Who cares if they bite someone or get killed on the road. Petty to enforce right?
3. skateboarders can ride wherever they want, anytime anywhere. If you hit one and kill them, it sucks to be you. Petty to enforce right?
4. You can play loud music whenever and wherever. If you live next door, too bad. Petty to enforce right?
Everybody lambastes the cops for trying to do what are the stated city ordinances, and traffic laws. These were put in place for a reason. It IS illegal to skateboard on Lincoln, let alone middle of the road, wrong way at night. Maybe somebody gets killed, but at least the cops don't have to hear about "petty enforcement"! Be too busy going to funerals and making hospital visits for this "petty enforcement". Use some common sense Sickofitall and bus gus!
This whole negotiation with the triple crown is laughable. They want us to fund all of their needs, what about them putting some money into the ballfields and such. I have tried to keep an open mind about this for years, but quite frankly have had a belly full of the jammed streets, rude people, and condescending attitude shown by many of them. Let them go people, our town will be better for it. Enough already!
I am not sure what you are referring to in terms of learning our history. I was not yet born when dad built this house in Brooklyn in 1960. He grew up in Clark and then Phippsburg when his father moved to the valley when he was a small boy. Growing up here, it was dirt road, potholes big enough to swallow a Volkswagon and Treehouse was the new up and coming high dollar subdivision. Other neighbors have been here longer than I! So, please be careful when you lecture us on history, zoning and such. How long you been around? Wonderful things like Triple Crown zooming down our neighborhood were not even thought of yet. And, by the way, drive down the street with a piece of equipment that exceeds the weight requirements (as put in place by city council) and it will cost you 4 points, $100 fine for disregarding a traffic control device and it will stand up in court. We are not alone by any means by all the growth and traffic concerns, we all need to work together to come up with a long range solution for all of us. I appreciate your thoughts on the matter, I think the citizens of Steamboat need to have some studies done as to what (if anything) is financially feasible and works for all of us.
I am being called a dumbass, yet I am not the one proposing that my home be bulldozed..... What would be your definition of dumb then? Or perhaps you rent and don't own. Why would someone ask that their home be bulldozed to make way for a bypass? Ok, sure call me what you want, but you are not making much sense.
How bout using some common sense as your title wrongly suggests. First of all, the "illegal" weight restrictions are indeed very legal, second Brooklyn has enough traffic already with Triple Crown and the commercial equipment that brazenly ignores those LEGAL weight restrictions. Lets send all that traffic down your street and see how that works. Brooklyn is one of Steamboats oldest neighborhoods, and any bypass solution would need to take that into account. We got a taste of traffic hell a few years ago when they bypassed highway 40 through River Road when they were repaving 40. Yikes! I am all for revamping traffic and creating a bypass, but anything that involves Brooklyn would be strongly contested.
We have attempted for years to deal with the increased traffic, congestion, and all around rudeness of the TC crowd. And, all this for the benefit of a handful of businesses and our wonderful chamber, whose job it is to make sure we are jam packed all year long. I, for one, as a long time (40 years) property owner would finally be for looking at a real estate tax if it meant we could cut ties with some of the sales tax revenue driven ventures such as TC. Let them go people, it will be ok. If your business is sustainable and has a good product, it will live on.
Please add my name to the list of individuals who have maintained a family membership for many years and.....sadly enough to say, it will NOT be renewed this year. Very poor planning on the remodel, hideous waterslides, and a sudden price increase on the individuals who have made the long time committment to the place with their finances. I will get a membership at a fitness place. I think they will find that the hoped revenue gain will be badly set back by all the unrenewed memberships.
