Ronald Reagan fans are mostly proceeding under some illusion that he really stood for "limited government." What he stood for were some conservative ideals that did change the direction of the country. But unfortunately he didn't change the basic nature of this country and while many congratulate themselves on their conservative principles, this is simply a feel-good cult and it has ultimately harmed the country because it has resulted in one of the most incompetent administrations in recent history. American Empire is an illusion and our ability to promote or even force democracy is a flaw rooted in self indulgent notions about our superiority.
