Completely agree. Public dollars should be expended transparently without any sense of self-dealing. Even non-profits using donated funds must make full disclosure in their 990 tax filing which is made public through Guidestar.com.
Thank you to all the volunteers. We've already got another senior in Steamboat interested in having us build a ramp for her. Is there a church interested in partnering?
Jody here-Project Info. Mgr. I'm done communicating with people who attack me by name and professionalism in print, and who don't have the common decency to identify themselves. If you would like information on the project, from now you will need to get it by calling our project hotline each morning at 819-7008. If you leave me your name and number, I promise I'll call you back in a timely manner with the facts.
Jody here, U.S. 40 Reconstruction Project Info. Mgr.- Let me respectfully suggest that you anonymous bloggers would be wise to inform yourselves about the project before you post online comments. We have held weekly (then monthly) public meetings at city hall throughout the project and have seen almost nobody attend. This project has been in the planning and approvals phase for at least 5 years. Where were you when your "opinions" could have had an actual impact? That's when the project schedule/construction dates/scope/bonuses/penalties were determined...well before Scott Contracting bid on the project. To be crystal clear here-Scott Contracting is not asking for another dime from anybody. We're not happy with the weather, but we're building a quality project and are on target to finish it on time Nov. 12. No, we won't get a bonus for finishing early...June 30, but we accepted that risk when we took the job. In fact, some downtown businesses are the ones asking the partners on the project to speed up completion and so they came to CDOT, Scott and the city to see what could be done to come up with some more money. Let your city council know what you think. But take the time to be informed first. It's your duty and right as a voter.
It's a temporary link to the old asphalt on the south side of Lincoln. It will be pulled up when we lay the new concrete on the south side in the Fall.
Good idea about using storefronts that aren't rented. Perhaps a longtime downtown landlord could donate it rent-free as a tax write-off? We need another rink more than indoor space around it.
Without a volume of affordable housing (why DID we turn out backs on Steamboat 700 and, in effect, 360 village?), wages that have to be paid to keep families/workers here can never compete with larger metropolises, no matter how ideal the lifestyle. We've created Aspen and Vail with affordable housing in outlying areas like Hayden and Craig. Most companies (and we) don't want that many workers commuting that far. Then life feels more like suburbia we all left.
Flowers and Scott- You can't fairly compare the skate park concrete with Lincoln Ave. concrete being poured...a different mix altogether. U.S. 40 is being paved with 8 1/2" thick highway grade concrete. Apples to oranges. Jody Patten 819-7008 U.S. 40 Proj. Hotline for facts

No bikes allowed at new Steamboat skatepark
Scott and Mavis- First, Scott, it appears you "get it" about the concrete. So my comment was actually directed at Mavis, who does not.
