Lyman Orton: Brutal chip-and-seal

The selling of "Bike Town USA" includes the ability to bike! The chip and seal program covered a number of area roads making it difficult, for a period this summer, even for a recreational road cyclist like myself to feel comfortable if for safety reasons alone. There has to be a better way!

Should the city buy 580 acres of Emerald Mountain land for $2 million?

A modest price, even in these economic times, for a heritage site.

Steamboat City Council to consider relaxing aspects of vacation home rental policy

Why change?
It seems to be working as is. The issue is compliance. Those who are not complying now, won't later. The City needs more money not less. Use it for enforcement. 4 cars seems ample.
For those who expected a residential neighborhood when they brought their homes and for the commercial establishments, like the motels who are paying significantly higher taxes than home owners, who is protecting their interests by relaxing the present rules?

Who are we dealing with?
Are they financially able to do this project?
What are their qualifications?

Something seems to be missing here!

Intrawest focuses on helmets

Why not require all instructors, while teaching, to wear a helmet?
Know it would tough on some but it would certainly set an example.

Atira submits Ski Time Square plans for redevelopment

It is unfair for this City Council to bond this community for 10 years to the Atira Group which will undoubtedly change in structure over that period of time. So will Steamboat.
3 years is appropriate. If construction has not commenced, we should have a clearer picture of the economy by then and how it affects this project. Perhaps, given the present economy, a 2 year option under approved guide lines can be given- for example, ownership's financial ability and qualifications.

Fortress on shaky ground

Isn't the City being asked to extent the building permit for Thunderhead Lodge from 3 to 5 years?
Given the information in this article, why do it? The developers can always re-apply later. Such extensions are not unusual if the developers have acted in good faith with the community.
