Ignore Harvey's rude comment! Thank you for your thoughtful letter. Traffic has been crazier than normal lately, partly due to CDOT's lack of functional/appropriate traffic lights along with extra tourism driven activities in town. I live downtown and walk as much as possible. Walking with my family is so hazardous because everyone seems to be in such a hurry. I have witnessed up to 5 cars in a row run the stop signs at 7th & Aspen on a daily basis just as one example of many violations I've noticed lately.
We have such a unique community, but we really need to be more conscious about our driving habits. I get frustrated as well, but driving recklessly is not the answer. People need to slow down and respect the others around our beautiful community, including other drivers, pedestrians, & bikers.
It is hard to try and call this place Bike Town USA when it isn't even pedestrian friendly. Try walking around downtown with a stroller, and count how many times you almost get hit by traffic or how hard it is to get by more than 5 restaurants on the sidewalk! Just sayin...
This is something that will be cool for locals and tourists, and will not impact the water supply. People love to overreact on these types of subjects. Although I think Scott comments on too many subjects, I still find myself agreeing with him on this one.
Joey, check your typos...
I think Rob is digging for stories in the wrong place. It's funny how only one other comment followed Mr. Nerney's. I'd say none of us make what we should here. My salary has been frozen with the county for more than 4 years. Low salaries will cost more in the long run because when people quit for better jobs, we pay more to hire and train others. Mr. Nerney's comment was not threatening, but merely hypothetical. The comment was pretty harsh, but he was just trying to make an emotionally driven point!
I meant to say the U.S. was founded by people from many different countries who spoke many different languages.
YVB showing ignorance again, as usual... You do know that the U.S. does not have a national language, since it was founded by many different countries. "the United States has never had an official national language -- and throughout its history many languages have been spoken along with English." http://ask.yahoo.com/20011107.html
Most americans would be lost in non english speaking countries, and would probably just speak louder english to make them understand... yeah, that works!
You must be a gaper if you think think I was calling anyone a name. I was just saying that everyone keeps bashing Eugene for trying to write enjoyable articles. Still usuing OMG??? Must be a gaper...
1999 unlike you, I did not call anyone any names. You seem to comment on just about every subject. Your opinion must be very important to you to be offended by my comment to SOMEONE ELSE! You're probably just upset about this whole subject because you can't ski very fast. Those of us that can are hopefully in more control than most gapers on the hill, and know when it is safe to ride fast and when it is not. And did you really use OMG...?
I don't think he was encouraging any reckless skiing. You people need to get real lives and stop bashing every little thing that someone writes about!
@yampavalleyboy... Euge was the editor of Paddler Magazine for years when it was here in Steamboat and has had books published. Just because your vocabulary is limited doesn't give you the right to trash others because you can't understand all the four letter words...
Talk about no sense of humor! These complainers must have never cracked a smile watching Christmas Vacation!!! Keep up the good work Eug...
