To those who made the decision to "improve" the intersection, get on a bus and listen to the grumbling driver who cannot make it throught the intersection without hitting the curb. Roundabouts, aka traffic circles, are not familiar to American drivers and will lead to many accidents. Off of I-70 between Vail and Eagle they have traffic circles on the exits which confuse drivers. The only people who have dealt with traffic circles are the people who have been to a few mountain towns that currently have them. Folks who are new to these areas have no idea what to do with them. We'll have to see what this winter brings. My bet is an increase in traffic accidents. To prevent accidents at traffic circles, how about a by-pass to avoid them. Kinda like a by-pass around downtown would decrease traffic and accidents.
At my work, Mr. Techy was telling us about Big Brother's tentacles in our computer system. If Homeland Security comes knocking on Brent Boyer's door demanding the indenties of bloggers, is he going to say, "NO!" Hmmm . . . He may stick his neck out for a fellow reporter, but will our identities be kept confidential? I read these blogs for the entertainment value, like some of you. I don't like it when it just turns to vicious mud slinging. I leave at that point, but the good natured bantering is lots of fun. I won't blog when they require my name, phone number and year of birth.
The station picured above has to get it's fuel delivered in a small tanker truck because the local Conoco distributor hasn't delivered fuel in the big tankers in months. The small tanker loads cost more. In the past, Weston's was a few cents over Steamboat costs, but not as much as now.
Boat - Commuters are already complaining that the prices are too high in So Routt. Small independent stations have a really tough time making a profit. I'm sure most of us have seen what the prices are like in any convenience store. There's a large mark-up on all goods. How high can they go before people stop buying?
Another factor in the increased cost of gas is credit card fees. They have increased and eat up a lot of the profit. At Weston's, even though it's a Conoco store, it's still individually owned and I've watched the price of gas skyrocket and the profit margin dwindle. Owner's of stations like Weston's only make pennies on the gallon. They are barely breaking even, if at all, on the store's total sales. The small station owners are having to close their doors because they can't make it at all. The Oak Creek Sinclair was closed down for a while. Two of the four stations in Kremmling closed and one of the remaining is really struggling. I'm sure that we'll see more and more closing their doors in the near future.
My experience with the Coke distributor over the last year + is less than stellar. They go through employees at a fast rotation. What does that say about the employer? They don't care if their equipment is malfunctioning or broken. The taps at our store were rusty. They didn't care. We just let it go as a testament to Coke. We go through a lot of Pepsi.
Rodeman recordings released
whereisthesno - It seems like all of the heartache shouldn't be blamed just on alcohol in this case.

Pumps could become park
scooter - The state might be able to help with the cost of clean up. The owner just needs to apply to get the ball rolling.

Taulman to lead high school
I like Kevin. I hope he survives this "interim" job without a lot of battle scars.
