If I could make the request of local law enforcement to actually hold the individuals accountable when the brawls break out outside the Grand as they have for the past few years. I can appreciate that the Texans who get rowdy do not press charges against each other for the fights but you could at least lock them up for a public disturbance charge right? I could be wrong but it seems this violence is simply given a warning and has no accountability.
No mention of Annie's? They really have done I believe to be the best work. I have had nothing but positive experiences as a shopper and consignor there
Don't worry the corporate money that supported a portion of his campaign and the Bennett attack ads will sue for a recount and drag this out as far as litigiously possible. Justice always goes to the highest bidder.
No mean to be rude but you are not seeing the point. I feel a part of the lifeblood of Steamboat's economy, the ski resort. If the employees in the resort industry cant afford to "settle down" it will be harder and harder to find that Genuine attitude that keeps people coming back. We will become souly based on imported seasonal employees. They can be fantastic but they are not the people to communicate the heart of this community.
More and More of the people I work with are buying out of town and commuting in. That prevents them from becoming a bigger part of the community.
Furthermore what went into the decision was not only my own situation and opinion of AH. Based on the 2000 census the average income of any single man in the boat could not qualify neither the average income of a couple. and again
I also voted against it due to there is no guarantee of the AH in the first place and the economy has changed dramatically since this plan was drawn up. I think Danny and the City have a great opportunity to take the concerns that have been beaten in this debate and come up with a better plan more palatable to all residents.
Exactly Jaded
As a resident of Steamboat, CO USA I am entitled to My Vote for My reason.
Welcome to democracy. Once the city comes up with a better plan for AH I will be glad to here it out but for know they are forcing people to either rent or buy property out of town and commute. AH and SB700 should be encouraging more people to live here in town and for an individual in my situation {and there are a few of us resort employees here} it is not attainable so I voted against it.

We will see what the results bring and I stand by my vote
Painting the picture that the "no voters" are anti growth is not accurate. I liked the idea of expansion in to west Steamboat. I voted no. I did a bit of research before my vote looking at all sides of the issue. My biggest concern is attainable housing. I live and work full time in the resort industry and want to buy a condo in the next few years once I have saved enough. As an employee in the life blood of our little mountain town that is extremely difficult as a single guy. I have an education I am doing what I love and love what I do and working my way up in a local company. The idea that you would need to be %120 to %200 AMI is not attainable for someone in my situation. Based on the 2000 census that would be anywhere from $62,000 to over $100,000. From trying to find more current figures the numbers only get higher. Average income for someone in my position is $35,000. As I continue up I may cap over $50,000. So I learned as a single guy I am SOL on Affordable housing as it stands right now.
Sure I could work three jobs{which I have two already} and scrap to get by and get an affordable home but why would someone want to work 80+ hours a week to live here but then not get to enjoy the reason why you live here? Yeah the view is nice but I also like making turns and tossing flies into the Yampa. A stay-cation during mud season is not that much fun.
So that leads me to which is harder to find in Steamboat.......Affordable housing or a wonderful woman to share it with?
Jobs for Steamboat 700 will only go to the lowest bidder.
With the state of the current economy those more likely than not wont be locals but imports from across the state
Thanks for your reply Mr Quinn
Rounded off and Based on the 2000 census then you would have to have a household income between $62,000 and $110,000.
The average income for men based on that census was $35,000 and women $26,000. So a couple combined still would not meet the needed amount. Or you can get a deed restricted home that in my opinion is pointless to buy as there is not incentive of investment.
So is there affordable or attainable housing or not? That is also based on a 10 year old census and I am sure the numbers are a different now.
I not leaning towards hoping the fence just yet.
Wouldn't tearing down and rebuilding the Iron horse be a better investment of time and energy of the City?
Mr Quinn
Please explain how 700 is creating affordable housing? Will this include deed restrictions? How will it attract those who live in the surrounding area's to purchase there and all the additional costs that will be added on to a purchase price.
Sincerely
on the fence
