Why did everything at Strawberry Park have "to be packed and ready for storage within eight hours of the last bell"? I'd like to know how much teaching and learning went on in the last month of school, especially when all the books were packed.
Well, it is the same newspaper that thinks it's a great idea to run Ann Coulter every week. Maybe Brent and crew are just showing their true nature.
This is too weird. The columnist gets on the blog and is more obnoxious than the worst bloggers. Rob, I don't see any "gutter language" or "incivility and foul mouth" in Kiely's post. Are you referring to the phrase "sucking hind teat?" Man, he must have really gotten to you. I hate to enrage you further, but I really think he's got some good points. In fact, I was glad when he got on the last article and told some of the facts about the creation of those fields. There are so many things about your 'column' that I dislike...but to name the highlights:
-the dumb analogy about congress and the Iraq war funding
-the needless attack on Engelken who is standing up for what's right
-the last dramatic paragraph about the impending tragedy when TC leaves
Looks like the Pilot found the perfect new writer: one who exaggerates and is super opinionated about a topic he doesn't know much about, then goes bonkers on the blog. Should keep circulation going strong!
p.s. are you making that up about the caller? I wonder.
I've got to wonder if foodchain is for real or just yanking everyone's chain, so to speak. If real, what incredible contempt for his fellow humans! how fitting if one of those 'porch monkeys' ends up being the doctor who saves his life someday or some such thing. the whole elitist snob pose is a stretch - obviously anyone with real class wouldn't give him the time of day after hearing the arrogant dopey comments.
books - you're right and there's no room at the OT location for the health club that's needed by stbt.
elkeye - very interesting. I wonder who that "someone" at city hall was?
another local - are you sure you know what you're talking about? according to the chart Matt referenced, it looks like the lodging tax is included. can anyone verify that? it's be nice to have the real numbers when discussing this.
and "2 million in wages paid as a result of TC spending" ?? are you saying none of those people would have their jobs if TC wasn't here?
If the cutting horse group was 200 people and I don't know if that's right, I bet those 200 spent more than 2000 TCers.
onthebusgus - I agree! I loved the cutting horse events. I don't know why they stopped coming but they would be a great one to have back. That's exactly the kind of group we should try to attract, the opposite of TC.
thank you Books. why backflips indeed. I believe our town actually pays TC ($75,000?, $100,000?) to come here.
Matt - remember "if you build it, they will come" ?
how about 'if you get rid of TC, they will come.' It is nuts to say eliminating TC will eliminate tourism for the summer. No one scouting the boat while TC is here would be likely to plan their future event here.
how many visitors do you think have been turned off and run off from Steamboat when they come here and the town is overrun with Triple Crown? I'm tired of reading about the estimated money that we're going to lose if we don't have Triple Crown. what about all the (likely more desirable) tourists who will stay if we free the town from hordes of ball players and all the accompanying problems? personally, if I was visiting the Colorado mountains in the summer, I'd never come to Steamboat for that reason. there are plenty of other towns that would be better. In fact I feel like I have to leave town during July and August although I'd rather not.
Get rid of TC and give the town a couple of years to adjust.
B4 i.e. principally sent - what can i say? you're back to show everyone what a problem you have. is it safe with you in town? thank you thank you old board for taking the heat for your feat.
(sorry fish, didn't know there was a fish out there)
B4 i.e. principally sent - can't believe you want to dredge up the past and expose yourself as a nut again. it sure looks like we should all be glad the old board got rid of you. thank you thank you thank you.
