Local Marketing District comes under scrutiny in wake of sales tax

It is interesting to note that the law of unintended consequences is at work subsequent to the passage of the quarter percent sales tax increase. Now, every citizen in the City of Steamboat Springs has "standing" as it relates to the LMD. Although not everyone can be on the board, everyone can attend their meetins, speak their opinions and use the Colorado Open Public Records Act to obtain information; there are some folks involved with the LMD that are uncomfortable with this. Citizens should use the tools available to them, albeit imperfect, to hold all involved with the LMD (Council, LMD Board & Ski Corp) accountable for our money.

Do you plan to vote in favor of Referendum 2B, a 0.25 percent sales tax to supplement the winter air service program at Yampa Valley Regional Airport?

At last Thursday's election forum the proponents of 2B were asked to hold an open public forum where all of the public's questions would be answered with no limit on the number of questions. It hasn't happened becuase the proponents know that this proposal could not stand up to public scrutiny. Economic misinformation is being purveyed. It is a taxpayer bailout pure and simple and an attempted boondoggle of the Steamboat Taxpayer.

Chris Diamond: Air service affects us all

At last Thurday's election forum the proponents of 2B were asked to hold an open public forum where all of the public's question would be answered with no limit on the number of questions nor for the time it takes to answer those questions. It hasn't happened because the proponents including Ski Corp management knows this proposal could not stand up to public scrutiny. It is a taxpayer bailout pure and simple an an attempted boondoggle of the Steamboat Taxpayer.

Steamboat to extend bus service until 2:20 a.m. for winter

Well, well the City Council for once has stepped out of their la..la land bubble and authorized a worthwhile expenditure of public funds that has been long overdue; a welcome change from their usual prodigal expenditures. What with the horrendous late night Alpine taxi service and the local gendarmes forever seeking to ally their boredom, this is a valuable public service for both residents and visitors. Perhaps Council can keep their rose colored glasses off long enough to do the same for the summer concerts.

Steamboat resort executives bank on flakes

What's the definition of tone deaf??? Easy -$97 per day lift tickets for the #14 ranked resort; we ain't Deer Valley but we sure charge like it. Add in a 11% reduction in airline seats with stratospheric prices and I guess we'll have 3,000 acres all to ourselves.
Already had five family members from the East that couldn't get in to Hayden. Some are driving from Denver others just kissed it off.

Obama retools campaign tactics

Sorry for the two misspellings in my last comment. Hit the send button too quickly.
Let's look at the numbers of the proposed Obama budget.
Deficit would be 5% of GDP
Federal debt would go to 80% of GDP
Federal spending would be 23% of GNP
All unsustainable numbers that will bankrupt this Country.
And the CBO says his projections are off some two trillion 900 million dollars - holy mackerel! We're in trouble!!

Obama retools campaign tactics

How ironic, parents signing up for a mountain debt for their two little childern, must be double strengh Kool-Aid. The Obama budget will more than double our national debt to over two trillion dollars and the debt to GDP ratio will be putting us in a category of banana republic but I guess because The Chosen One says it will help we must beleive! How dumb! Even the Communist Chinese know it's madness.
